Click here to view the memorial video.Elizabeth W. Ross, 96, of Bancroft, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft with the Rev. Phillip Hale officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Bancroft, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Elizabeth was born on January 3, 1912 to John Adolph and Lina Minna (Stahl) Schenk at home in Brown County, Nebraska. She was baptized on October 24, 1912 at home. She graduated from Johnstown High School in 1930 and attended Normal School to receive a teaching certificate and taught for one year in a rural K-8 grade school. When Elizabeth’s grandmother died, she resigned from teaching to take care of household duties for her father. She married Louis John Theodore Ross on February 15, 1948 in Brown County, Nebraska. After they were married she moved with Louis to the farmstead northwest of Bancroft. She was confirmed by Pastor Holman in 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft . To this union three children were born: John Alan, January 1, 1949; Lois Ann, May 26, 1951; and Karen Elaine February 20, 1953. Elizabeth was an active Altar Guild member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; she also was active in her neighborhood Cherrio’s Club, Senior Citizen Center activities and card clubs. Elizabeth had a lifetime passion for making quilts and later in life she crocheted afghans, doilies, sweaters and booties. Louis and Elizabeth farmed until 1976 when they retired and moved into Bancroft. Elizabeth was able to live independently at home until entering the hospital on November 4, 2008 where she peacefully passed away on November 5, 2008. Elizabeth is survived by her children: John Ross and his wife Judith of Bancroft; Karen (Ross, Vejnovich) Timm and her husband Don of Lyons, Ne; Grandchildren: Chris and Nina Vejnovich and son Sam of Lincoln, Ne; Sara Vejnovich of Omaha, NE; Tina (Ross) Strum and her husband Robbie of Omaha, Ne; Kathrine (Ross) Zeleski and her husband Paul of Gillette, Wy; and Virginia (Ross) Frisch and her husband Brian and son Devin of Omaha, Ne, Step-grandchildren: Matthew and Leslie Timm and Children Lucas, Lillie and Logan of Pender, Ne; Paul and Adrienne Timm and son Alexander of Lyons, NE; and Katie Timm of Lyons, Ne, a sister-in-law Marilyn Bonnenu of Rochelle Illinois, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lina, husband Louis, daughter Lois, sisters, Minna, Emma, Lena and Bertha, and brother Justus.
