Click here to view the memorial video.Carol M. Dunn, 89, of Walthill, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at her home in Walthill after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith United Presbyterian Church in Walthill, with the Rev. Harold Ross and Rev. Nola Briggs officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church in Walthill. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill. Carol was born on July 5, 1919 to Adolph M and Millie L. (Braunsroth) Heide in Richie, Montana. The family returned to the Bloomfield, Nebraska area a short time later and engaged in farming. Carol Graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1937. She taught rural school in Knox County for three years right out of High School. After earning a teaching certificate from Wayne State College, she moved to Walthill, Nebraska in 1942 to begin what was a long career teaching elementary school, the majority of it at Walthill Public Schools. Carol married Clifton Dunn at the Methodist Church in Bloomfield in 1950. She first taught 5th grade, and then taught Kindergarten after the birth of her two girls. They have farmed on the Dunn family farm since their marriage. She often helped around the farm, helping to milk a large herd of Holsteins. The couple farmed 160 acres raising corn, oats and soybeans, as well as operating a cattle feedlot. Carol was an active member of the Faith United Presbyterian Church, often serving as organist and participating in the activities of Presbyterian women. She was also involved in neighborhood extension clubs and received the Thurston County Woman of Achievement Award in 1990. Carol is survived by her husband, Clifton, and her two daughters: Susan M. Dunn and her husband Robert Stewart of Lincoln, NE, and Tammy J. Peterson and her husband Kyle of Dakota City, Ne, two grandchildren Katie and Lila Peterson, as well as three step-grandchildren and their families, Christine Scott of Lincoln, Mark Stewart of Omaha, Ne, and Robert Stewart II of Malcolm, NE, a brother, Dale Heide and friend Anna of Oregon, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Rex Heide.
