Click here to view the memorial Video.Sharlene R. Otteman, 72, of Lyons, Nebraska died at her home on Saturday, December 20, 2008. A funeral service for Sharlene will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons; Rev. Neal Mather will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender, with the family present from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery near Pender.
Sharlene was born in Decatur, Nebraska on February 7, 1936, the daughter of Arnold and Alice (Launsby) Nelson. She attended school at Decatur and Lyons, and graduated with the class of 1953. Shar later attended Wayne State College.
On September 11, 1955, Sharlene married Kenneth Otteman. They settled in Pender, Nebraska, where they had four children. Alan and David were born one year apart on the same day. They were followed by Teresa and then Jon. Shar and Ken farmed in Pender for 25 years. In 1980, the family moved to Turlock, California, where Sharlene worked in a doctor’s clinic for many years. In 1994, Sharlene and Kenneth moved to Loveland, Colorado to retire. Retirement was short lived, they returned to Lyons in 1999, to care for Sharlene’s ailing mother.
Sharlene was baptized Lutheran and remained faithful her entire life. She was a member of the United Methodist Women for several years. Following retirement, Sharlene became an avid quilter and created many amazing works of art. Shar also quilted for the needy and donated many quilts to Mercy Hospital for HIV and unfortunate babies. She also enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren. Sharlene dearly loved all of her friends and treasured their times together.
Sharlene is survived by her husband Kenneth of Lyons, children David, Teresa Otteman of Loveland, Colorado and a son Jon and wife Anastasia Otteman of Mesa, Arizona. Shar is also survived by her sister Helen Cram of Lyons, Nebraska.
Sharlene was preceded in death by her son Alan and her parents, a brother Alvin and a sister Eloise.
