Dorothea M. Zvacek, 86, of Pender, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Pender Care Centre in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 31 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender.
Dorothea was born on February 5, 1922 in rural West Point (Cuming County), the daughter of Herman and Dora (Meyer) Lorenzen. She attended country schools, and parochial school in West Point, Ne. She graduated from West Point High School. After earning a teaching certificate from Wayne State College, she taught in country schools.
On March 26, 1944 she married Lambert W. Zvacek in West Point, Ne. To this union three children were born, Frances, Janis and Dennis. She was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, Ne. She was also active in many civic organizations, VFW Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, Pender Junior Women’s Club, and the Pioneer Senior Center, holding various offices in each. Dorothea was employed at the County Clerk’s Office. She was also known around Pender as the “Stamp Lady” selling savings bond stamps, and the “Egg Lady” for selling farm fresh eggs.
Dorothea is survived by her three children, Frances Anderson, and her husband, Dale, of Bancroft, NE; Janis of Sioux City, Iowa; and Dennis and his wife Nancy of Pender, Ne. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Aimee and Chris Ibsen, Tami and Mark Nelson, Todd Anderson, Andrea Anderson, Sherry and Ryan Roeber, Collin Zvacek and Rodney Zvacek. Also surviving Dorothea are six great grandchildren, Carter and Carson Ibsen, Ethan, Aidan and Ava Nelson, and Kylie Roeber, a brother Eldon Lorenzen and his wife Rosemary of Lyons, NE, and a sister-in-law, Mylet Zvacek of Pender, Ne.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lambert, a grandson, Scott Anderson and a brother Marvin Lorenzen.
