Mabel Elaine (Early) Darnell, 97, of Pender, NE, passed away Sunday, September 06, 2015 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Walthill, NE; Pastor Steven Breazier will be officiating. The visitation will be Monday, September 7, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 8:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender.
Mabel was born August 21, 1918 in Walthill, NE to Walter and Alice (Cupp) Early. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Walthill. She graduated from Walthill High School in 1936. On January 25, 1938, Mabel was united in marriage to Elwyn Darnell in South Sioux City, NE. The couple had two children. Mabel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Walthill and worked for the Thurston County Weed District and H & R Block. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities, cooking for family gatherings and playing Bridge and Pinochle. Mabel was always traveling, which is how she received her nickname, “Grandma Go Go.”
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Nancy Athey of Walthill; daughter-in-law, Nancy Darnell of Bancroft; 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Elwyn; son, Dennis; and son-in-law Larry Athey.
