Alva Smith

Alva Smith, 94, of Pender, NE, passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender. A graveside service will be Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Rosehill Cemetery in Pender. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Alva was born January 3, 1922 to Floyd and Agnes (Anderson) Smith in Thurston, NE and attended school there. Alva worked as an attendant at the filling station. He was united in marriage to Delores “Tessie” Fetty in 1945 and the couple had three children. Alva was a member of the United Church of Pender and a 60 year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and tinkering with wood making small animals. Alva loved traveling to Texas for the winter with companion Sandy Miller, and visiting his family in Alaska. He is survived by his son, Jerry (Linda) Smith of Hot Springs, AR; daughter, Jeanette (Paul) Ramey of Glenwood City, WI; sister, Joan Jensen of Omaha, NE, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Alva is preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Jackie Record; and sisters, Mildred Thompsen and Frances Bradfield.
