Raymond Prokop, 86, of Thurston, Nebraska passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE. A memorial service will be Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; Pastor Miles Ruch is officiating. The visitation will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. Burial will be at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pender. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.
Raymond was born June 29, 1929 to Emil and Alma (Juzek) Prokop in Schuyler, NE. He graduated from Thurston High School in 1947. On October 19, 1959 he was united in marriage to Lois “Bonnie” Kai at Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City, NE. The couple had four children.
Raymond was a member of the Thurston Fire Department and the American Legion Post 372. He worked at the Thurston Elevator for 50 years and was also a baseball coach. Raymond loved to collect stamps, tear down old buildings, working and tinkering. He also loved to be in the yard with his garden, play horseshoes, and was a Husker fan.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Lois “Bonnie” Prokop of Thurston, NE; sons, Doug (Lori) Prokop and Marty Prokop of Thurston, NE; brother, George Prokop of Dallas, OR; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Alma Prokop; parents-in-laws, Art and Florence Kai; daughters, Shelly Pedersen and Tina Prokop; brothers, Lambert, Alvin, Anton and Harry Prokop; and sisters, Mammie Novotny and Mildred Orey.
