Gertrude M. Ohlquist, 93, of Wakefield died on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Wakefield Assisted Living in Wakefield, Nebraska. A funeral service for Gertrude will be held on Wednesday, May 27 at 2:00 P.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor John Pasche will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield. The family will be present from 6:30 until 8:00. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery.
Gertrude was born in Ottertail, Minnesota on October 25, 1915, the daughter of Paul and Marie (Ludi) Eggli. As a child, Gertrude’s family moved to a farm near Genoa, Nebraska. She attended Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska to earn a teaching certificate, and taught in the Genoa area for several years. She married Wilbur Utecht on June 1, 1940. The couple farmed South of Wakefield, Nebraska; until Wilbur’s death in 1978. They had one child, Gayle. Gertrude married Alvin Ohlquist in 1986. Alvin died in 1991.
Gertrude is survived by her daughter Gayle and husband Jerry Kingston of Phoenix, Arizona; two granddaughters Pam Rush of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Jennifer McNutt of Glendale, Arizona, five great-grandchildren Alec, Nathan and Sean Rush and Emily and Samuel McNutt, and numerous friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands Wilbur and Alvin, three brothers and three sisters.
