Wilma R. Dose, 87, of Emerson, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, June 06, 2009 at Heritage of Emerson, in Emerson, NE. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson with the Rev. Gretchen Ritola officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and prayer service at 7:00 p.m.. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Wilma Rosella Beatrice (Simons) Dose, the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Eickhoff) Simons was born on May 31, 1922 at the family farm located in the Brown School District northwest of Emerson. She was baptized that year at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson. She began school at Bell School between Wakefield and Wayne. During the 4th grade her parents moved to a dairy farm in South Dakota across the Big Sioux River from Hawarden, IA. She finished fourth to eighth grade in rural school of South Dakota. She enrolled her freshman year at Hawarden High School. During that year, on December 28, 1935 her parents were killed in a car/train accident. The next summer she lived with an aunt and uncle in Wayne, but in February of 1937 she came to live with she came to live with an aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Ted Kuhl and entered Emerson High School. She was confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran that same year. Wilma graduated from Emerson High School in 1939 with a degree in normal training. She taught in rural schools of Dakota County. She continued teaching after marrying Alfred Ludwig Dose on June 5, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hubbard, with the Rev. Sherman Fredricks officiating. To this union four sons were born: Gary Duane; Roger Charles; Alan Bruce; and Warren Adolph. She continued to teach and continued her education at Wayne State College, and graduated in 1967. Later she earned a an additional 20 hours in specific learning disabilities. When Emerson School consolidated she was taken into the Emerson-Hubbard District in 1961 and taught there until her retirement in 1987. Alfred and Wilma were active at the Emerson Senior Center. Wilma was President for 10 years, and was on the board. She was also a member of Elderberry Choir and the Kitchen Band. Left to mourn her passing are sons: Warren and his wife Gay of Uehling, NE; Alan and his wife Julie of Downs, KS; a brother Kenneth Eickhoff and his wife Fran of Bothell, WA, a sister-in-law Lillian Simons of Broomfield, CO, eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Simons, her husband Alfred. Two sons Gary Duane and Roger Charles, a brother James Simons and a grandson Ryan Matthew Dose. She was also preceded in death by grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eickhoff and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Simons, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Kuhl and their children Alice Burmester and Bill Kuhl with whom she made her home for may years, a very special aunt, Ida (Eickhoff) Johnson and a special cousin Elmer Bell, who lived in the Simons home for many years.
