Lawrence Lavern Wortman, 80, of Walthill, Nebraska passed away at his home in Walthill on Sunday, June 7, 2009 after a short illness. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, Nebraska with the Rev. Brion Tolzman officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, Nebraska. Lawrence was born on November 20th, 1928, in Macy, Nebraska, the son of Albert John and Margaret (Young) Wortman. He married Esther Edgington on June 4, 1950. To this union six children were born, Jeffrey, Shirley, Danny, Karma, Gene, and Shane. Lawrence farmed north of Walthill until 1964 when he moved his family into town. Lawrence drove a grain truck for Sam Kramer, and also worked for a tire company in Sioux City, Iowa. He later worked for Petit, and C & H. Collins Construction companies for 45 years until his retirement in 1991. Lawrence enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed sitting in his yard and on the front porch in the summer and watching all the activities around Walthill. Lawrence is survived by daughter, Shirley Holbrook and husband Doug of South Sioux City, Nebraska, son Danny Wortman and his wife Kim of Correctionville, IA, daughter Karma Farrens and her husband Skip of Decatur, NE, son Gene Wortman and his wife Karla also of Correctionville, IA, son Shane Wortman and his wife April of Walthill, fourteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Don Wortman and his wife Eleanor of California, and Gerald Wortman and his wife Joan of Tekamah, Nebraska. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Esther, two brothers, Delmar and Vernon, and his oldest son, Jeffrey Lawrence.
