Earl Duffy, 84, of Pender, NE died on Friday, July 15, 2016 at his home in Pender. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender with Father Gerald Leise officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Pender. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Pender is in charge of the arrangements.
Earl was born on September 6, 1931 in Waterbury, NE, the son of Thomas and Elsie (French) Duffy. Earl attended school in Laurel, NE, where he graduated from in 1950. After graduation, Earl joined the United States Army serving in Korea. After being discharged in 1954, Earl was united in marriage to Darlene Hyatt at St. Ann Catholic Church in Dixon, NE on February 22, 1955. To this union five children were born: Cathy, Deborah, Dave, Karen and Thomas. They moved to Pender where Earl worked at and later owned and operated the Economy Market grocery store until his retirement.
He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and playing cards. He also loved watching Husker Football.
Earl is survived by his wife of 61 years, Darlene of Pender, NE; sons David (Connie) Duffy of Pender, NE and Thomas Duffy of Pender, NE; daughters, Cathy (Ed) Hula of Ozark, AR, Deborah (Merlyn) Lowell of Salix, IA, and Karen (Mark) Ricard of Moville, IA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and a sister Gayle Johnson of Sioux City, IA and a brother Lyle Duffy of South Sioux City, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elsie Duffy.
