Carol M. Harris

May 7, 1925 — June 20, 2009

Carol was born on May 7, 1925 in Pender, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl H. and Martha J. (Stalling) Vollers. After graduating from Pender High School in 1943, she moved to Anaheim, California. She was called back home to Pender to help her father and brother in the family business, Vollers & Son, after her brother joined the service. She worked as a “grease Monkey” for a short time and then in later years, as the bookkeeper. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the Pender VFW Auxiliary. She married Phillip Conger, in 1946; they had one daughter, Barbara. They moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1964, where she was the office manager at 7up/Westinghouse. She married James Corbett in 1972. After her retirement, they moved to Washington, Georgia. She married Waldo P. Harris in 1992. She was active in the Senior Center and her church; she sang in the choir and organized much of the music as well as sang solos at church retreats. She enjoyed camping, gardening, sewing and music. In 2005, she moved to Bickford Cottage in Sioux City, Iowa. Carol is survived by her daughter, Barbara Wingett and her husband Larry of Pender, granddaughter, Lyn English of Auburn, Alabama, brother Carl Vollers and wife Betty of Pender, sister Donna Cromer and husband Lugene of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, sister-in-law Lorraine Vollers of Sioux City, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her three husbands, three brothers, John, Jordan and Dell Vollers and a sister Verna Van Kley and an infant sister Joan
