Shirley Marilyn Storm, the daughter of Anton (Tony) and Ruby (Boggs) Ueding was born January 10, 1936, near Macy, Neb. She was raised in the Macy area and graduated from Macy High School in 1953. She then attended business school in Sioux City, IA. After graduation she worked in the finance department for Hormel, Inc. in Fremont, Neb., and later for the United State Post Office.
On September 18, 1955, Shirley was united in marriage to Lewis Storm, with whom she had two sons, Michael and Greg. Having never met a child she did not love dearly, she also helped raise several other children along with their own. The couple lived and farmed in the Macy area the majority of their life, and later moved to Homer, Neb. As a result of constantly being around groups of workers, Shirley developed the ability to cook for groups large and small. While she would never give herself credit, no one ever reported leaving her dinner table hungry.
Along with loving all children, Shirley also loved to quilt. Though the exact number may never be known, it can be said she personally hand-stitched well over 200 quilts and wall hangings. She had several entries at county and state fairs which won recognition, and later helped as a judge. Scouting quilt shops from one coast to the other worked in conjunction with another of her passions for traveling. She cherished the memories and countless pictures of her travels, and was more than willing to gladly share her recollections with whoever asked.
She was a member of the Reformed Church of America in Macy, and later attended the United Methodist Church in Homer. With her unwavering faith in the Lord, she took countless opportunities to serve Him by helping others. One of her proudest accomplishments was her involvement in assisting her family in building a complete home for a family in Mississippi who lost their home to Hurricane Katrina. She also helped cook for the senior noon meal in Homer, as well as was a part of vacation bible school.
Surviving members of the family who will never forget her and her love of life include her beloved husband Lewis, her two sons, Mike and Greg and their wives, and three grandchildren, Nick, Jennifer, and Kaitlyn.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Theodore.
