Carol Jo Barsby

Carol Jo (Cain) Barsby, 84, of Rosalie, NE passed away Wednesday, January 04, 2017 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Care Center in Pender.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Rosalie United Methodist Church in Rosalie, NE; with Pastor Steven Breazier officiating.  Visitation will be 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.  Burial will be held at a later date in California.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Carol was born October 21, 1932 to Joe and Lotus (Tunnicliff) Cain in South Sioux City, NE.  Her family lived in rural Homer where she attended and graduated from Combs School.  After graduation she continued her education by attending and graduating from Wayne State College where she earned her teaching certificate.  Carol returned to the Homer and South Sioux City area where she began her teaching career.  Carol traveled to California where she met and married LeRoy Barsby in 1952.  LeRoy was in the US Army forcing their family to move several times around the country.  The couple settled in Stockton, CA where they raised their five children.  Carol continued her college career and worked for the State of California as a Teacher of Youthful Offenders for the Department of Youth Authority.  She later moved back to Nebraska. Carol is survived by her sons, Steve Barsby of Rosalie, NE, Jay Barsby of Fresno, CA; daughter, Vicky Brown of Rosalie, NE; sisters, Judy Sheley of Hubbard, NE, Yvonne “Babe” (Rick) Fendrick of Thurston, NE, Connie Brown of Hinton, IA; brothers, Lloyd (Josephine) Cain of Dakota Dunes, SD, Dallas (Eva) Cain of Homer, NE, Lyle Cain of Homer, NE; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. Carol is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, LeRoy; daughters, Sheryl Goodall and Stormy Barsby; brothers, Ed Cain, Francis Cain and Norman Cain.
