Melvin “Lefty” E. Lamb, 79, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Golden Living Center in Hartington, Nebraska. Memorial services for Melvin will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Linnea Ek will be officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the arrangements. Mel was born on June 29, 1937 in O’Neil, NE, the son of Robert and Violet (Anderson) Lamb. He lived in O’Neill and Dixon, NE, moving into Wayne in 1951, where he graduated from High School in 1955. He worked at Ed Wolske Motors as a mechanic from 1951 until 1955. Following graduation, Mel joined the United States Navy, serving in the Atlantic Ocean from 1955 until 1959. After leaving the military and moving back to Wayne, he worked at Wolske’s Garage. On May 7, 1961, he was united in marriage to Janice Spangler in Wayne, NE. To this union four children were born; Bob, Larry, Brian, and Tracie. He joined the Wayne Police Department in 1967, and served as Sergeant from 1980-1992. After retiring in 1992, he worked at Automatic Blue Ox in Pender, NE for the next ten years. He is survived by his wife Janice of Wakefield, NE; sons, Bob and Brian Lamb of Wakefield, NE; daughter Tracie (Danny) Crawford of Blair, NE; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mel is also survived by two sisters, Judy (Rick) Hamilton of St. Augustine, FL, and Jeanie Summers of Albuquerque, NM. Mel was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; a son, Larry; and his sister, Ethel Thomas.
