Harlan Witte, 80, of Pender, NE, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his home while under hospice care. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 3, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender, NE; Father Gerald Leise will be celebrating Mass. The memorial visitation will be Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender. The burial with military honors will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Pender. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.
Harlan was born May 12, 1936 to Carl and Martha (Borchers) Witte in Pender, NE. He graduated from Pender High School in 1953. Harlan married Patricia Berger on December 30, 1965 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, IA. Harlan was a long time farmer. After he married Patricia, he worked for a few months at Montgomery Ward in Ann Arbor, MI. Although he was a great salesmen and receiving top salesmen for two consecutive months, his heart was in farming. In 1966 the couple returned to Pender. Harlan was in the Air Guard Reserves. He was also on the Township Committee and the Rural Water Committee.
Harlan is survived by his wife, Patricia; nieces, Sue (Mrylon) Kizer and Kris (Bill) Wollesen; nephews, Marty (Lisa) Kane and Mick (Terri) Kane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anita Roeder; brothers-in-laws, James Berger, Joseph Berger, Doug Kane and George Roeder.
