Edward D. Schnasse, 89, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. A funeral service for Ed will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Wakefield Presbyterian Church in Wakefield, Nebraska; Rev. Charity Potter will be officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening. Burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. at the Osceola Cemetery in Osceola, Nebraska. Military honors will be presented by the Wakefield Legion.
Ed was born on January 11, 1920 in Osceola, Nebraska, the son of Edward A., and Freda (Engelhardt) Schnasse. He graduated from Osceola High School. He married Mildred (Millie) Lytle on April 2, 1944 on Millie’s parent’s farm in York County. He served in the Navy and Marines as a Corpsman (Medic) in the pacific theater during WW II. He returned to Nebraska, and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln studying pharmacy on the GI Bill. After graduation in 1950, he moved to Wakefield, where he owned and operated the drug store from 1950 until his retirement in 1985. During his life, Ed loved to travel, he served on the Wakefield School Board and as Mayor of Wakefield. He was also a member of the Wakefield Corinthian Masonic Lodge. Ed was a member of several professional organizations, including the State of Nebraska Pharmacy Association. He was also a member of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association, the Wakefield Lions Club and the Wakefield American Legion.
Ed is survived by his son, Greg Schnasse and his wife Sharon of Lincoln, NE, grandchildren: Julie Dragoo and her husband Bruce of Lincoln, NE; Kari Wright and her husband Greg of Davenport, IA; and Mandy Fry and her husband Jeff of Lincoln, NE, and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Beth Prue and her friend Morrie of Corpus Christi, TX.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Millie, and a sister Frances Terry.
