Mary Alice Utecht

Mary Alice Utecht, 87, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne. A funeral service for Mary Alice will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor Terry Buethe will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Mary Alice was born on January 21, 1922 in rural Wayne County, the daughter of Richard and Louise (Monk) Utecht. She was baptized on January 29, 1922 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Wakefield, and was confirmed at St. Paul’s on June 7, 1936. She graduated from Wakefield High School in 1940. She began working as a cook at the Wakefield Hospital and Care Center in 1950, retiring after 40 years in 1990. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She also belonged to the St. John’s Lutheran Church serving in the AAL and the Ladies Aid. She loved doing crafts, knitting, crocheting and needle point. She liked to entertain, and also enjoyed watching sporting events especially any Cornhusker activity. Mary Alice is survived by many nieces and nephews, and one sister, Arlene Bentz of Porterville, CA. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Loretta Utecht; Frances Wagner; Wilbur Utecht; Fred Utecht: Helen Ohlquist; and Herman Utecht.
