Dennis E. Fillipi, 67, of Pender, Nebraska died on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the United Church of Pender; Pastor Jon Fillipi will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009 from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Pender.
Dennis was born on November 14, 1941 in Pender, Nebraska, the son of Myles and Evelyn (Ostrand) Fillipi. Dennis was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Pender. He attended country school and later Pender High School. After leaving school, Dennis worked at several jobs in the Pender area. Dennis married Mary Bolln on August 27, 1960 at the Presbyterian Church in Pender. Together they have two children, Mike and Lisa. He began working for Automatic-Blue Ox in 1974, where he worked as a machinist, later as plant manager and Customer Care. He retired in 2007 after working there for 33 years.
Dennis had many hobbies. He loved fishing and the family trips to Minnesota, he also enjoyed wood working, but Dennis also had a love for gardening. He could be found in his garden or tending to his flowers in the spring and summer. Family was important to Dennis, he loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with them.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary, his children Mike and wife Joan Fillipi of Pender, and Lisa and husband Tony Crippen also of Pender, four grandchildren: Nicholas and Shane Crippen; and Connor and Maggie Fillipi. Dennis is also survived by a sister- in- law Roxie Fillipi, two brother-in-laws Pete Bolln and Walt and his wife Edna Bolln, aunts Mylet Zvacek, and Donna Witschi and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Myles and Evelyn, two step-fathers Elmer Kai and Joe Fillipi, brothers and sisters Carroll Fillipi, Marilyn Bewley and Myles Fillipi Jr. He was also preceded in death by brother-in-laws Jim Bolln and Art Reich and a sister-in-law Georgia Reich, and his father and mother-in-law George and Marie Bolln.
