Harlan L. Mueller, 81, of Emerson, Nebraska, passed away in Lincoln, NE on Friday, November 27, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, with Fr. Michael Malloy officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday evening. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Emerson. Harlan was born January 11, 1928 in Wisner, Nebraska, the son of Henry and Rosie (Schutte) Mueller. He graduated from Pender High School in 1945. He married Vera A. Pieper of Emerson, Ne at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father Applebaum on April 13, 1948. They started farming eight miles north of Emerson, and in 1962 moved 1 ½ miles north of Emerson where he was living at the time of his passing. He had retired from farming, but still enjoyed watching the daily progress of the farming operation. Harlan was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Church, and a member and past officer of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed playing shuffle board, bowling, playing cards, and in recent years fishing with his family. This past year he made the trip four times to “The Palace” in Minnesota, hoping to catch just one more big one. He also enjoyed spending time with his six children and their families. Harlan is survived by his wife, Vera, of 61 years, three sons and three daughters: Ken and Jody (Rohde) of Roca, NE, Mark and Denise (Lueth) of Emerson, Calvin and Kim (Becker) of Omaha, Sandy and Cliff McKinney of Waterloo, NE, Becky and Bill Diederich of Omaha, and Keith and Rita Brehmer of Pender, NE. Also surviving are his 21 grandchildren: Justin and Adam Mueller, Chelsea Thomalla, Mike, Matt, and Mark McKinney, Mindi Gritten, Megan Boekhout, Brandon Diederich, Bridget Tanton, Brittany Bartunek, Ben Brehmer, Molly Ferg, Kimberly Mueller-Malone, Nathan, Garret, Jordan Mueller, Jacob, Morgan, Coltin and Zachary Mueller, and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by three siblings, and their spouses, Ardell and Irene Mueller of Pender, Mylet and Ted Habrock of Emerson, Marilyn and Bill Hansen of Wakefield, and brother-in-law Jack Martin of Emerson. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, a very special granddaughter, Tabitha Mueller, a great granddaughter Isabella McKinney, and a sister-in-law Marcy Martin.
