Click here to view the video tribute.Betty Darline (Pounds) Novak Koenig, 85, of Pender, Nebraska, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, December 20, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church of Pender with the Rev. Kenny Walden officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Pender.Betty was born on July 9, 1924, in Pender, Nebraska, to Charles and Cecil (Smith) Pounds. She lived in Thurston County in Rosalie, Winnebago, Walthill and Pender her entire life. She graduated from Rosalie Public School in 1942.Betty married Edwin Novak on July 25, 1942, at Pender, NE. Edwin died on November 9, 1962. Betty married Everett Koenig on October 22, 1965 and he survives her.During her 20’s and 30’s Betty was the pitcher for the fast-pitch softball team in Rosalie. She loved sports and was always active in following her sons to all their events. She was an avid Nebraska Husker Football fan, going to many games and even some bowl games. He son, Ed even took her to Tokyo, Japan, for the Nebraska/Kansas game. She was a member of many card clubs and the Betty Club. Betty also traveled extensively in their RV, visiting family and friends from Miami to Oregon. Betty also had the pleasure of traveling the world to Europe, China, the Holy Land, Egypt and Alaska.Betty worked as the office manager at the Pender Community Hospital for 17 years.Betty is survived by her husband, Everett, three sons: Ed Novak and his wife Gayle of Denver, CO; Larry Novak and his wife Jan of Denver, CO; Jim Novak and his wife Barb of Overland Park, KS, a daughter Cheryl Walden and her husband Kenny of Bedford, IN; a step-daughter Diana Carlson and her husband Gerald of Spiritwood, ND and eighteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Edwin, a son, Delmar Novak, a brother, Charles Pounds and an sister at birth.
