Harold Obermeyer, 84, of Thurston, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the South Haven Living Center in Wahoo, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 18, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn Schacht officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender, NE with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Laurel Cemetery in Laurel, NE. Harold was born on May 31, 1925, in Laurel, Nebraska to Herman and Bertha (Greinhasen) Obermeyer. He married Arlene Carstens on August 17, 1943 in Yankton, SD. After their marriage they moved to Iowa, and then to Pender in 1946. He served as Sheriff in Thurston County from 1958 to 1966, and again from 1987 to 1998. He served as Chief of Police in Mitchell, SD from 1967 to 1972, he was also served as chief of Police in Pender. He was a Scout Master for years, receiving the Scouting Award Order of The Arrow. He also belonged to Abu Bekr Shriners, and was a 32nd degree Mason. He also served as a volunteer fireman. Harold’s hobbies included rock collecting, electronics, flying, but his greatest interest was Law Enforcement. Harold is survived by a daughter, Jane Fosdick and her husband Mike of Lincoln, NE, son Chuck Obermeyer and his wife Janie of Thurston, NE, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents his wife , Arlene, and six brothers and sisters.
