Donald W. Johnson, 91, of Bancroft, Nebraska died on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Pender Care Center in Pender, Nebraska.
A funeral service for Donald will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft; Pastor Phillip Hale will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Bancroft. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery.
Donald was born on February 9, 1918 on the Zuhlke homestead in rural Bancroft, Nebraska to Martin H. and Mary L. (Zuhlke) Johnson. Donald was baptized, confirmed and married in St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Bancroft. He attended school at District #32 and high school in Bancroft, graduating at the age of 16 years.
On January 30, 1943, he married Charlotte C. Johnson from Bancroft at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They made their home south of Bancroft, where they started their family, and Donald farmed.
Donald loved farming, gardening, hunting, fishing, ball games, card playing and billiards. He always found time to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or whoever.
In 1995, he retired and moved into Bancroft. Then in 2005, due to failing health, his remaining years were in the Pender Care Center.
Donald is survived by his daughters Nancy Olson and husband Leonard, Sally Larsen and her husband Tom, and a sister Luella Mason; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Charlotte, two sons Larry and Ronald and a sister Dorothy.
