Michael (Mick) C. Surber Sr., 62, of Dixon, Nebraska died on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at his residence, surrounded by family. A memorial service for Michael will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the River Hills Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska; Pastor Kevin Roach will be officiating.
Mick was born in Wayne, Nebraska on July 9, 1947, the son of Lloyd and Alice (Nelson) Surber. At a young age, Mick moved with his family to California, where he attended school. He was married to his beloved wife, Nancy Fredette on March 1, 1965 in Tijuana, Mexico. To this union, four children were born Michael, Robert, Jeffrey and Sarah. The couple made their home in California, where Mick worked as a cook and restaurant manager. The family later moved back to South Sioux City, where he cooked at the Red Raven (now the Eagles), and later at several other restaurants. Mick soon after worked in construction for both Klinger and Brower construction companies. He was a member of Local Labor Union #427 in Sioux City. Ten years ago, at the age of 52, Mick retired and moved to a farm in Dixon, his paradise. Mick had a deep love for his family and friends. He would never turn anyone away. Mick also enjoyed music, card games, fishing and spending time with his dogs. On March 1st of this year, Mick and Nancy celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. All who knew and loved him will dearly miss him.
Mick is survived by his wife Nancy of Dixon, children Michael Jr. and Brenda Surber of Concord, Robert and Walka Surber of Long Island, NY, Jeffrey and Mary Surber of Concord, and Sarah and Ty Ratzlaff of Dixon. Mick is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and a sister and her husband Jackie and Doug Whelchel of Newcastle, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gary and a nephew Louis Surber.
