Harlan W. Schopke, 73, of Emerson, Nebraska died on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The funeral for Harlan will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson; Pastor Gretchen Ritola officiating. The visitation will be held at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. followed by a Masonic Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Harlan was born on April 26, 1936 in Emerson, Nebraska the son of Walter and Helen (Lusebrink) Schopke. He attended and graduated from Emerson High School. After graduation he worked until entering the Army. He met and married Ruth Rohrs. The couple farmed in the Emerson-Wakefield Area. On December 11, 1991, Harlan married Judy Richardson. Harlan was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Emerson American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and the Abu Bekr Shrine. He enjoyed playing cards and dancing. Harlan is survived by his wife Judy of Emerson, children Mark of Wakefield, Paul and Janet of Pender, Heidi and Steve Swanton of Wentzville, MO, John and Jennifer of Kearney, NE, Steve and Tracy Flax of Lakenheath, England, Mike and Amy Flax of Emerson, NE and Roxann and Rob Stark of Minot, ND. He is also survived by as sister, Vera Longe of Wayne, Nebraska, and 19 grandchildren. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents Walt and Helen and a sister Doris Jean Jasa.
