Doris Cecelia Griggs

Doris Griggs, 93, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, Nebraska. The funeral for Doris will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. at Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield; Chaplain Randy Rasmusse will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Doris Griggs was born on January 3, 1917 on a farm northwest of Wayne, the daughter of Olaf and Maria (Bengston) Nelson. She was confirmed in the Concordia Lutheran Church and Concord. Doris spent most of her life living in the Concord and Wakefield areas with the Art and Clara Doescher family, helping care for their parents and working for the Wakefield Hospital until her marriage to Merlin Griggs on July 20, 1963. They made their home in Omaha until his death in 1970. She returned to Wakefield after his death to live with the Doescher family as a caregiver and housekeeper for her nieces and nephews. In 1992 she moved to her own home at the Wakefield Villa until 2005, when she called the Wakefield Health Care Center her home until her death on March 27, 2010. Aunt Doris will be greatly missed by her “special family” DeWayne and Garna Klausen of Springfield, NE; Ray and Julie Lund of LaCygne, KS; Gene and Marcia Kratke of Wakefield and their families and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merlin, three brothers Oscar, Eric and Carl and four sisters, Ellen (Mrs. Robert Kennedy), Bertha (Mrs. George Vollers), Anna (Mrs. Frank Mead) and Clara (Mrs. Art Doescher).
