Leota Emma Slaughter

Leota (Beckman) Slaughter, 94, of Rosalie, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Pender Care Centre in Pender, NE. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, NE., with Rev. Brion Tolzman officiating. The graveside committal service will be at the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, NE. at 1:30 p.m. A visitation will be held on Sunday, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.at Trinity Lutheran Church with the family present. Leota was born on Jan. 3, 1916 on a farm near Pender, NE., the daughter of Ernest and Sophia (Siebrandt) Beckman. She was baptized by Pastor Eckhardt at St. John’s Church. She attended a parochial school at the church with her older brothers and sisters. Rev. Robert Kruse was the teacher. They drove a buggy and team of horses to school. In 1930, Leota was confirmed at St John’s Church by Rev Robert Kruse. On Jan. 19, 1939, Leota married Russell Slaughter. The couple were joined in marriage by Rev. Robert Kruse. Afterward they lived on a farm outside of Pender, NE., later moving to a farm near Rosalie, NE. From this marriage four children were born. They joined the Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, NE, where Leota was a faithful and active member. She served as the ladies Aide president for many years. Leota was also a member of the Sunshine Club. Leota worked at Campbell’s for many years until retiring. The most important part of her life, however, was her family. She attended every family gathering with her homemade goodies that were loved by all. She was a great mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. Leota was loved by everybody in the community. When visiting her you never had to worry about going home hungry. Leota has shared several special memories that will not be forgotten by her family and friends. She is survived by her children: Dennis (Sherry) Slaughter of Rosalie, NE, Carolee Bonneau of Rosalie, and Etta Mae (Bob) Krahmer of Emerson, NE. She is also survived by a sister, Lillie Gilster, and sisters-in-law: Orma, Betty, Elaine, Babe, and Margaret Beckman, 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Russell, daughter Beverly, brothers: Victor, Arnold, Clarence, Martin, Leonard, and Alfred Beckman, and sisters: Lona Hansen, and Mabel Jahnke, and a grandson Clyde Marr Jr.
