Dale F. Glissman, 87, of Pender, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the Pender Care Centre in Pender. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender with the Rev. Glenn Schacht officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender. Dale was born on October 27, 1922 in Pender, NE, to Wilhelm and Frances (Gilster) Glissman. He grew up in the area and was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church. He attended country school at District #34 east of Pender, and graduated from Pender High School in 1940. After graduation he moved to Omaha and worked at the Martin Bomber Plant in Bellevue. He enlisted in the Army Air Force. While assigned to the 398th Bomber group, he flew many missions as a navigator aboard a B-17, achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant. He returned from the service in 1945. He married Mamie Thomsen on April 27, 1952 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. He was a life long member there, and served on the Church Council. The couple lived in Pender where in 1948 Dale operated a Liquor store with Clarence Dye and then with Bill Tonjes until selling the business in 1967. Dale also worked for the Post Office for 31 years and retired in 1990. Dale served on the Pender Village Board and Pender Airport Board. He was also a member of the Pender Veterans, Pender Legion, and Pender Volunteer Fire Department, serving as the Fire Department’s Treasurer for over 55 years. Dale is survived by his wife, Mamie, three children: sons Ron of Omaha, NE; and Doug (Pam) also of Omaha; and daughter Cindy (Ron) Mattes of Hooper, NE, five grandchildren: Jason, Chaley and Jeremy Glissman, Michael and Jacob Mattes. He is also survived by a sister, Viva Hartz of Washington, sisters-in-law Jean Glissman of Michigan and Joann Glissman of Norfolk, NE, as well as numerous nieces nephews and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harlan, Donald and Bill Glissman, a sister, Edna Ramspott, and an infant brother and sister.
