Max Greve, 21, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Thursday, June 24, 2010 in Russell, Kansas as the result of a grain bin collapse. A funeral for Max will be held on Monday, June 28, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Eaton baseball field in Wakefield; Pastor Bill Koeber from Salem Lutheran Church will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Salem Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Lunch will follow the burial at the Wakefield High School Gymnasium. A memorial fund in Max's name has been established at State National Bank in Wayne.
Max was born on August 31, 1988 in Pender, Nebraska, the son of Steve and Cheryl (Abts) Greve. He was raised near Wakefield on a farm. Max attended the Wakefield School, graduating in 2007. While in high school, Max excelled in sports, especially baseball. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. After graduation, Max attended Colby Community College, where he played baseball. Currently Max was working at a grain elevator in Russell, Kansas. He will also be remembered for pulling practical jokes on his friends and family.
Max is survived by his parents, Steve and Cheryl of Wakefield, a brother Tucker and wife Mandy (Whaley) Greve of Alliance, Nebraska; two sisters Andrea and husband Jason Schrunk of Sioux City and Nicki Greve of Omaha. Max is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Bayleigh, Allie and Owen Schrunk and Trevor Whaley. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother Carol Greve of Wakefield and maternal grandmother Helen Abts of Dixon, Nebraska, and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Henry and Beverly (Longe) Greve and maternal grandfather Louis Abts.
