Edith A.V. Erickson, 101, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, Nebraska. The funeral for Edith will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Ross Erickson will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Bressler ~ Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield. The family will be present at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., and there will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery.
Edith Amanda Viola (Sundell) Erickson, the daughter of Gustof and Ida (Ahs) Sundell, was born on her parents farm Southwest of Wakefield on July 28, 1909. Edith was baptized in September of 1909 and confirmed in 1924 at Salem Lutheran Church of Wakefield. She attended Bell Country School and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1928. She worked for various families in the Wakefield and Sioux City areas for four years until she married Joseph Erickson. Edith and Joeseph were married on June 8, 1932 at the Covenant Church Parsonage. The couple farmed his parent’s farm northwest of Wakefield. They retired and moved into Wakefield in April of 1972. After her husband’s death in 1985, she continued to live in their home celebrating her 100th birthday there.
She was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, the hospital Auxiliary, Park Hill Club, and WHO. She greatly enjoyed gardening, flowers, taking photos and putting them in albums along with newspaper clippings in scrap books and correspondence.
Edith is survived by her daughter Lois and her husband Marvin Borg of Concord, Nebraska, a son Dwaine and his wife Janelle of Wakefield, Nebraska; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joeseph, two great grandsons, Joshua and Ryan Borg, and a great granddaughter Sydney Jo Borg. Edith was also preceded in death by her five brothers Albert, Carl, Elmer, Victor and Arthur Sundell.
