Carol L. Baker

August 14, 1931 — September 17, 2010

Carol Louise Baker, 79, of Pender, Nebraska, departed this life after a brief illness on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Covenant Church of Pender with the Rev. Dan Springer officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender. Interment will be in the Rosehill cemetery in Pender. Carol was born on August 14, 1931 to Algot and Alta ((Berg) Nelson at their home near Homer, NE. She received her Elementary and High School education through the Homer Public Schools. She attended Evangel Bible College in Springfield, MO for one year majoring in music. In her later years she attended Northeast Technical School in Norfolk, NE to further her music education. On December 29, 1952 Carol was united in marriage to her husband of 57 years, Alvin Baker, at the family farm northwest of Winnebago, NE. They lived on a farm east of Pender, Ne until moving into Pender in 1967. She worked as a cook and then dietary supervisor at the Pender Community Hospital for 21 years. Following her retirement she worked in housekeeping the last 14 years at the Pender Care Centre. Carol was an excellent worker who found genuine satisfaction in a job well done. Music was a large part of Carol’s life. She had many piano students through the years and also enjoyed playing for church and the residents of the Care Centre. Carol was an intelligent, thoughtful and caring person who touched many lives. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Our lives have been changed forever by our loss. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Baker, one son, Rev David (Joyce) Baker of Mandan, ND, one daughter, Karen (Glenn) Eichelberger of Wisner, NE, one brother, David (Carolyn) Nelson of Springfield, MO, seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Steve.
