Doris Elaine Heckens

Doris E. Heckens, 86, of Emerson, Nebraska, died on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Heritage of Emerson Care Center in Emerson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 1, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson with the Rev. Gretchen Ritola officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the Church. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Doris was born on July 2, 1924 in Emerson, Nebraska, the daughter of John and Lydia (Heckens) Schindler. After graduation from High School she married Art Geise, who passed away in 1957. She later married Herb Heckens who passed away in 1984. During her life she worked as a head checker in a retail grocery. Doris is survived by her daughter, Sharon Biggerstaff of Emerson, grandchildren: Lonnie (Lisa) Biggerstaff of Wakefield, Ne; and Kim Satterwhite and friend Dan McRae of Emerson, great grandchildren: Wyatt and Sidney Biggerstaff; Aaron and Brooke Satterwhite; and Nicole McRae. She is also survived by a sister, Marcella Stimson of Emerson. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Art Geise and Herb Heckens, a brother, Marvin Schindler of St. Louis, MO, and a sister, Margie James of Sioux City, IA.
