Verna L. Bengtson

Verna L. Bengtson, 89, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield. The funeral for Verna will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield; Pastor Ross Erickson will be officiating. The visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. A light lunch will be served following the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Evangelical Covenant Church of Wakefield. Verna was born on February 13, 1921 in Wakefield, Nebraska, the daughter of Olaf and Anna (Carlson) Nelson. She was married to Paul “Pat” Bengtson on September 20, 1937. To this union three children were born: Paul, Karen and Kevin. The couple made their home on a farm near Wakefield. Verna is survived by her sons Paul and wife Cheryl of Omaha and Kevin and wife Gloria of Old Hickory, TN, four granddaughters, seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Karen and a brother Clarence Nelson.
