Larry Larsen, 81, of Bancroft, Nebraska died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at his home in Bancroft. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday November 17, at the Bancroft Presbyterian Church in Bancroft. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery, Bancroft, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. at Munderloh Funeral Home in Bancroft. Larry was born December 2, 1929 in Rosalie, Nebraska the son of Lars Frank and Marie (Thomberg) Larsen. He attended school until 8th grade when Frank broke his back. He held several jobs during that time. Larry married Sally Svendsen on October 14, 1951. He entered the Marine corp. The couple lived in San Diego during that time. They moved back to Nebraska in December of 1953. He worked for the Bancroft Coop and then Harry Bargmann Trucking. Larry and his brother Donn started Larsen Transfer in 1962. Later he and Sally owned and operated the business. Larry was diagnosed with cancer in 1992 and after several months he went into remission. Larry enjoyed going to Valentine canoeing with his brother Tom. It was in Valentine where he took up golf. He really liked playing golf at Kelly’s Country Club, where he made a lot of friends. He enjoyed going to Les’s for coffee and discussed world affairs with the coffee bunch. He also enjoyed dancing, Aksarben, and eating at the Green Lantern in Decatur with his wife Sally. Larry received Pioneer Trucker Award from Joe Morton & Sons . Larry is survived by his daughter and her husband Kris and Terry Colwell of Norfolk, Kim Bleckwehl of Ida Grove, Iowa, 2 sons James and his wife Diane of Bancroft and Danny also of Bancroft. Also surviving are his brothers Tom and wife Sally of Valentine, Bob and wife Myra of Blair, a sister Joan and husband Orlin Heermann of Atkinson, NE, and daughter-in-law Carol Larsen of Bancroft, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. Also a host of extended family and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his wife Sally, son Jeffrey, brother Donn and his parents.
