Alan J. English

Alan J. English of Manhattan, Illinois passed away on January 6, 2022 at the age of 55 years. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2022 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Pender Community Event Center.  A reception/fellowship will follow the service until 5:00 p.m.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designations.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, Ne. 

Alan was born to Kenny and Rita (Anderson) English on November 21, 1966.  He graduated from Walthill, Ne in 1985 and during high school he worked at the famous John’s Corner Store. After high school he attended Western Iowa Tech College and graduated in 1986. He then moved to the Chicago area and worked for SpaceCom for 12 years where he met several lifelong friends.  Following SpaceCom he went on to Sidley & Austin LLP for 5 years before moving on to Schiff Hardin LLP where he has been for the past 20 years as the Network Administrator. In 2006, he married Keri Peterson and had two daughters, Alison, and Eve.

He loved his family and friends while also having a passion for his work.  He enjoyed Star Wars, Pee-Wee Herman, Viper cars and the Minnesota Vikings.  Prior to Covid, he enjoyed his “train friends” on his daily commute to work in downtown Chicago. He was an avid Star Wars fan and collector, which could be seen throughout his office.  He also enjoyed his Viper sports car and was a member of the Dodge Viper Club of Illinois.  One thing he looked forward to, and would count down the days, was his annual fishing trips with his beloved brothers to Minnesota.  

Alan is survived by his wife, Keri and children, Alison, and Eve. His mother, Rita Murphy and stepfather, Don Murphy; brothers; Mark (Tara) English of Walthill, Ne and Toby (Sara) English of Shawnee, KS; also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.   

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth English.
