Alan L. Hankins

Alan L. Hankins, 66, of Sioux City, IA, formerly of Emerson, NE, died on Monday, June 6, 2022 at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.  The visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Emerson, NE.  The funeral service for Alan will begin at 11:00 a.m. with military honors to follow at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Emerson.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Siouxland Humane Society or Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue.

Alan was born in Sioux City, IA on August 29, 1955, the son of Lyle and Gloria (Cramer) Hankins.  In 1976, Alan graduated from Allen High School in Allen, NE.  Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Enterprise flight deck.  After his time in the service he returned to Nebraska, where he worked for ten years at Waldbaum’s in Wakefield, NE and later for thirty years at Tyson in Dakota City in maintenance.  In 1990, he was united in marriage to Lisa Lile.  They lived on a farm west of Emerson.  Following her death in 2021, Alan, lived with his son and daughter-in-law in Sioux City.  

He had a passion for fixing everything and tinkering around his farm.  He also enjoyed being around his animals and family.

Alan is survived by his son, Josh (Danielle) Lile of Sioux City, IA; grandson John Minor, sister, Juanita (Dale) Pelley of Sioux City, IA; brothers, Fred Cramer of Oklahoma City, OK, John Hankins of Madison, WI, William McCain of South Sioux City, NE, Scott McCain of South Sioux City, NE; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Gloria; wife, Lisa; brother, Robert Cramer; and sisters, Nancy Hankins, and Lila Anderson.
