Bonnie J. Young

Bonnie J. (O’Mara) Young, 94, of Pender, NE passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE.  The visitation will be Monday, May 9, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  The funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Pender, with Pastor Daniel Springer officiating.  The burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  

Bonnie was born on December 20, 1927, in Lyons, NE, to Earnest and Velma (Valder) O’Mara. She attended school in Walthill until the eighth grade and graduated from Pender Public School in 1946.  Bonnie met Vernon Young, the love of her life while roller skating.  On July 4, 1946, Bonnie married Vernon in Omaha, NE.  Together the couple had three children and adopted four children. 

Bonnie was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir.  She was proud to be a 73-year member of the Ladies Auxiliary.  Bonnie enjoyed going to coffee and out to eat with her friends.  She spent many hours gardening and dancing in her younger years and more recently loved spending time going to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Bonnie was extremely proud of her Irish heritage.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Chad (Sandra) Young of Dodge, NE; daughters, Cindy (Wayne) Miller of Hubbard, NE, Christy (Gene) Heise of Bancroft, NE, Jean Adair (Jeff Sherwood) of Omaha, NE, Mary Ann Kilzer of Lincoln, NE, Kimberly (Ray) Johnston of Ocean Park, WA; sister-in-law, Bobbie O’Mara of Wyoming; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Young; son, Kerry Young; brothers, Kenneth (Melba) O’Mara, Vaden “Corky” O’Mara, Gary O’Mara; sisters, Maxine (Loren) Callahan, Darlene (Ormann) Hoops, and Betty Adair.
