Carla Boeshart

Carla Jeanne (Sievers) Boeshart, 78, of Emerson, NE passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at her home in Emerson.  Funeral services will be Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson; Pastor Christine Hjelmstad will be officiating. The visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson.   Carla was born in Pender, Nebraska, on November 23, 1939, to Frank and Ruby (Lemmon) Sievers.  Carla was the oldest of five siblings:  Kathy, Frank, Jr., Jim, and Janette.  The family moved to Ponca, Nebraska, when Carla was in the 6th grade.     Throughout her entire life, Carla was a leader, an educator, and a public servant.  In youth and teenage years, she taught Sunday school at the United Methodist Church in Ponca, she was a Girl Scout leader after earning the highest level of achievement in Girl Scouts of America, she was chosen to represent her class and community at Girls’ State in 1957, and she was the valedictorian of the Ponca High School Class of 1958.     Carla began college at Wayne State in the fall of 1958; and, with a provisional teaching certificate, she began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse south of Ponca in 1959.  Some of her fondest memories in her later years were of the students she got to teach in that schoolhouse.  Carla went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education degree along with Master of Science in Special Education and Master of Science in Educational Administration degrees from Wayne State College.   Carla taught first grade for Millard Public Schools before marrying Danny Boeshart of Allen in August of 1966 and moving to Emerson, Nebraska.        Carla taught first grade in Emerson; however, most of her years were spent teaching special education and then serving as Director of Special Education for Emerson-Hubbard.  To round out her career in Emerson, Carla served as the interim superintendent; at the time, only a handful of females served as superintendent across the state.   Carla left Emerson-Hubbard for the Pender Public School District where she finished her first career in education as the principal of Thurston Elementary School.     After retirement from Nebraska public education, Carla then embarked on a second career as a teacher of math, science, art, and computers at Sacred Heart Catholic K-8 School in Emerson.  When Sacred Heart closed, Carla resumed a position with Emerson-Hubbard escorting students with special needs from their homes around Emerson, Hubbard, Thurston, and Winnebago to school in South Sioux City.  Retiring once again in 2011, Carla considered this position pure joy.     In addition to her career in education, Carla was a dedicated public servant.  Over the years, she served as a 4-H leader, member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Council, treasurer of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church WELCA organization, member and president of the Emerson Town Council, president of the Emerson Summer Recreation Committee, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and as a member and president of the Emerson-Hubbard School Board.     Carla is survived by daughters, Susan Lindgren; Julee (Steve) Sauer; and Christine (Scott) Horner; grandson, Brandon Davio; granddaughters, Georgia and Dani Horner; four siblings; and, her precious dog, Sadie, who was at her side when she passed.   Carla’s survivors are extremely grateful for the attention and care from the Emerson Fire and Rescue Team and Police Chief, Chuck Chinn.     Carla was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother-in-law, Gary (Kathy) Fox.
