Cory was born April 12, 1980 in Sioux City to Timothy Tomlinson and Donna (Strong) Tomlinson. He was diagnosed with Down Syndrome shortly after birth. Cory was baptized in June of 1980 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, IA. His first years were filled with speech and physical therapy. Cory’s sister, Kristin was born when he was four years old. He attended public schools in Sergeant Bluff, IA, Clinton, MO, and Sioux City, IA. When Cory was 14, he began school at Allen Consolidated School after his mother was remarried to Richard Roland. The family moved to an acreage outside of Allen, NE. At the age of 15, his brother Dylan was born. Cory completed school at 21 and began attending adult day services at Northstar in South Sioux City, NE until his passing. Cory made countless friends in his lifetime. He touched so many people with his infectious belly laugh, hysterical dance moves, and his never aging, child-like innocence. He loved watching movies, listening to music, twirling his rope and going to Northstar Services. Most of all, he loved spending time with his friends, family, and pets.
After his passing, Cory gave the greatest gift, the gift of life, to two donor recipients. He has left this life as a hero. He will be missed more than words can express.
Cory is survived by his mother, Donna (Richard) Roland of Allen, NE; father, Tim (Kari) Tomlinson of LeMars, IA; sister, Kristin (Derek) O’Riley and their children, Brecklan and Elise of Harrisburg, SD; brother, Dylan Roland of Allen, NE; step-brother, Derek Tomlinson of Sioux City, IA; maternal grandmother, Dorothy “Mamaw” Strong of Bronson, IA; paternal grandparents, Max and Patricia Tomlinson of Moville, IA, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
