Courtney Kai

Courtney Marie Kai, 32, of Pender, NE passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender. Courtney now joins her dad, Rick, at our Lord’s side in heaven.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender; with Father Gerald Leise as the Celebrant.  Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m.  Burial will be in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pender.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to start a fund for her children.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  Courtney was born May 16, 1986 in Pender to Rick and Mary Kay (Belt) Kai. She was baptized at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Pender where she received her First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Courtney graduated from Pender High School in May of 2004. She has two beautiful daughters, Natalie Lynn born November 8, 2007 and Allie Renae born November 5, 2008. Courtney loved her girls very much and enjoyed traveling to Omaha as a family. Courtney was Natalie’s biggest fan at her softball games and Allie’s biggest help selling Girl Scout Cookies and achieving badges. Courtney loved spending time with her family, especially taking care of her nephew, Karter and niece, Rickie. She was employed at Rosie’s Mexican Restaurant in Pender. Courtney is survived by her daughters, Natalie Lynn and Allie Renae of Pender, NE; parents, Russ and Mary Kay Tonjes of Pender, NE; brothers, Brandon (Rochelle) Kai of West Point and their children, Karter and Rickie Kai, Eric Lundahl of Pender, NE, Scott Lundahl of Norfolk, NE; sister, Tanya Lundahl of Norfolk, NE; grandfather, Dale (Agnes) Kai of South Sioux City, NE; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her dad, Rick; grandmother, Elaine Kai; and grandparents, Harold and Irene Belt and Milon and Elaine Tonjes.
