Cindy was born on May 8, 1947, to Vernon and Bonnie (O’Mara) Young. She graduated from Pender High School in 1966. As a young girl, she enjoyed spending time with her sisters and brothers. Shortly after graduation, Cindy met the love of her life, Wayne Miller. They met while attending a dance in Pender and according to Cindy it was “love at first sight”. They were united in marriage on 10/22/1966. Together they had three children: Tammie, Michelle, and Steve. They raised their children on a farm outside of Hubbard, Ne. Cindy and Wayne were blessed with 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She spent her professional career working at Allied Solutions as a Customer Service Rep. Cindy also spent some time working as the activity director for the nursing homes in Emerson and Wakefield, Ne. It was here you would see how truly loving and caring Cindy really was. After retirement, she spent hours volunteering in the Pender Hospital Gift shop.

Cindy loved spending time in her kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends but most importantly, her husband! She will forever be remembered for her famous homemade banana bread, canning, numerous flavors of homemade jelly, and her homemade Velvetta mac & cheese. To her grandchildren, she was always known as the “candy grandma” for her ability to make sure her candy dish was always full. She was a life-long fan of the Huskers and always made sure to wear some form of the color red. She was truly passionate about her Irish heritage. It was in rare citing that you would ever find Cindy without a Diet Coke in her hand. However, if you offered her a Gin and tonic or glass of wine she would quickly put the diet coke aside. There was nothing more important to Cindy then her family. She always made sure to let everyone know how proud of a wife, mom, and grandmother she was! Her husband, children, and grandchildren were her true pride and joy. She always made it very clear that family was her priority; rarely missing any of her grandchildren’s special events. A stranger was never a thing to Cindy. She was known for her gift of “gab”. It didn’t matter who you were, if you were near her, she was going to talk your ear off. A gift that her two daughters were lucky enough to inherit from her. In her free time, you would find Cindy either in the kitchen, spending time with her grandchildren or shopping. It was shopping where you would find Cindy spoiling her grandchildren. She always adored spending a Saturday morning taking a trip to Sioux City, Iowa where she could spoil whatever grandchild she had that day. The day would always end up at Outback Steak House, Applebee’s, Texas Road House, or Culvers.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wayne Miller of Hubbard, NE; daughters, Tammie (Mike) Mogus of Wakefield, NE, Michelle (Rick) Soukup of Dakota Dunes, SD; son, Steven (Angie) Miller of St. Edward, NE; sisters, Christy Heise (Gene) of West Point, NE; brother, Chad (Sandra) Young of Dodge, NE; sisters, Jeannie Adair (Jeff) Sherwood, Omaha, NE, MaryAnn Kilzer of Lincoln, NE, Kim (Ray) Johnston of Ocean Park, WA; sister-in-law, Sara (Robert) Miller of Hubbard, NE; 12 grandchildren, Luke, Ben, Colby, Jenna, Haylee, Austin, Nathan, Brandon, Katie, Breanna, Madeline, McKinnley; 11 great-grandchildren, Mason, Hudson, Braxton, Ryker, Knox, Raelyn, Maxwell, Kinsley, Reece, Abel, Rhett; grand puppy, Zoey; many nieces and nephews.
