David P. Gradert, 69, of Emerson, NE passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE; with Pastor Gary Harris officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. Luke Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson. David was born October 9, 1948 to Delbert and Maxine (Bokemper) Gradert in Wakefield, NE. He graduated from Emerson-Hubbard High School in 1966 and received an Auto Mechanics Technology degree from Nebraska Vocational Technical School in 1969. David married Janice Lynn Reimer on June 26, 1977 at First United Methodist Church in O’Neill, NE. He was the owner of Emerson Auto Repair before working for the Village of Emerson and BPI. He recently retired from Thurston Manufacturing in Thurston. David was a member of St. Luke Church and Magnolia Lodge No. 220. He was a very creative person who loved cooking, woodworking, and gardening. He also enjoyed car racing, motorcycle riding, and spending time spoiling family and pets. David is survived by his wife, Janice Gradert of Emerson, NE; son, Anthony Gradert of Lawrence, KS; daughters, Davi Lynne Gradert of Emerson, NE, Alysa (Will) Karr of Emerson, NE; mother, Maxine Peters of Emerson, NE; sisters, Judy (Harlan) Gathje of Pender, NE, Betty (Rainold) Svitak of Fremont, NE, Cathy (Richard) Hulsebus of Sioux City, IA; brothers, Leonard (Bev) Gradert of Emerson, NE, and Dean (Joann) Peters of Omaha, NE; brothers-in-law, Warren (Karen) Reimer of Norfolk, NE, Jerome Reimer of Lincoln, NE, and Duane Reimer of Norfolk, NE; sister-in-law, Rita Reimer of Norfolk, NE. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Delbert Gradert; step-father, LeRoy Peters; and brother, Jerry Gradert; and father and mother-in-law, Henry and Marjorie Reimer.
