Delores A Hoefs

Delores Ann (Magdanz) Hoefs, 89, of Pender, NE, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Prairie Breeze Assisted Living in Pender.  The visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Pender; with Pastor Robert Schilling officiating.  Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  

Delores was born on May 9, 1932, to Adolph and Josephine (Jones) Magdanz in Wisner, NE.  She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner.  After attending Cuming County Rural School District #17, she attended and graduated from Wisner High School in 1949.  On March 18, 1951, Delores married Virgil Hoefs at Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner.  After living in Wisner for 1 year the couple moved to the farm south of Pender and joined St. John’s Lutheran Church. 

When Delores was younger, she liked baking and decorating cakes for birthdays, weddings, and many other occasions.  Delores was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and together Virgil and Delores were instrumental in establishing the avenue of flags which is a Memorial Day tradition at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pender.  In more recent years, she was on the committee to establish Pender’s Veterans Park.  She took great pride and joy in being involved in these two projects.  Delores was also an active member of St. John’s Ladies Aid/LWML organizations.  In her spare time, Delores enjoyed visiting friends, sewing, quilting, and working outdoors. 

Delores will be greatly missed by her son, Roger (Marlys) Hoefs of Pender; daughters, Wanda (Ron) Kelly of Thurston, Susan (Tom) McShane of Elkhorn; grandchildren, Chad (Brooke) Hoefs, Melissa (Steven) Hankin, Jeremy (Maranda) Hoefs, Brent (Sonya) Kelly, Kyle (Jacki) Kelly, Ian (Alicia) McShane, Max (Megan) McShane; great-grandchildren, Haleigh, Garret, Melayna, August, Samuel, Joseph, Naomi, Makrae, Marissa, Mitchell, Kate, Simon, Gus, Easton, Maverick, Ezra, Brooks, Aurora; and brother, Melvin Magdanz of Wisner. 

Delores is preceded in death by her parents, and husband Virgil in August of 1985.
