Delta Doris Dorthea Anna Vosteen

Delta Doris Dorthea Anna (Meyer) Vosteen, 95, of Pender, Nebraska died on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE.  Funeral services for Delta will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church near Pender; Rev. Kathy Montira will be officiating.  The visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  Burial will be in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the House Memorial Library, and the Pender V.F.W. Delta was born on March 26, 1922 to William and Edna (Lubberstedt) Meyer at Wakefield, NE.  She was baptized on April 16, 1922 and confirmed on May 19, 1935 at Immanuel Lutheran Church northwest of Wakefield.  Delta attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1939.  On January 9, 1946, she married Alvin Vosteen at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  To this union were born two daughters, Gail (Doug) Malchow and Mary (Gerald) Smith, all of Pender. Alvin and Delta farmed west of Pender until February 1955, when they moved to their farm west of Thurston.  On the farm, Delta raised chickens, sold eggs, and had a large garden.  Alvin and Delta loved dancing at Kings Ballroom and the Howells Ballroom.  They also enjoyed Alvin’s Army reunions.  They went on many tours that allowed them to travel to all fifty of the United States.  In 1971, Delta and Alvin moved to their home on Slaughter Avenue in Pender.  Delta worked at the House Memorial Library for fourteen years.  They cared for Delta’s parents in their home, and Delta cared for Alvin during his battle with Alzheimer’s.  She enjoyed visiting with her cousins, attending her grandchildrens’ activities, and she always had cookies in the freezer.  Delta was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and was a member of the WELCA. Delta will be greatly missed by her family: Gail and Doug Malchow of Pender, NE Kay and Dave Raabe, Claire and Jayden of Wisner, NEAmy and Trevor Topp, Mason and Ellie of Winside, NEAnn and Scott Kraus, Chase and Evelyn of Springfield, MOEmily and Nate Hanson of North Sioux City, SDSarah and Kyle Blakeman, Taryn, Burke and Quinn of Merna, NE  Mary and Gerald Smith of Pender, NE Mark Smith, Noah and Nathan of Lincoln, NEMelanie and Travis Farran, Khloie, Clara, Alec, Luke, Megan and Logan of Eldorado Springs, MOMarty and Elisha Smith, Ava, Kolt and Elyse of Pender, NEDoug and Kim Smith, Reese and Wyatt of Sterling, CO Cousins, nieces and nephews. Delta is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in August of 2001, her parents, William and Edna Meyer, parents-in-law, Dick and Mary Vosteen, a brother, Myron Meyer and wife Pearl, sister-in-law, Helen Heineman and husband Harvey, and a brother-in-law, Walt Vosteen and wife Betty.
