Donald L Berg

Donald L. Berg, 92, of Pender, NE, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender. Funeral services will be Friday, November 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Pender; Pastor Daniel Springer will be officiating. The visitation will be Friday, November 9, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a Mason Service at 10:30 a.m. The burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Pender. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under Don was born August 29, 1926 in Rosalie, NE to Roy and Daisy (Reilly) Berg. He graduated from Walthill High School in 1943. Don married Mavis A. McGuire on October 10, 1948 and the couple had two children; Kathryn and Keith. The couple farmed, moving to Pender in 1963. He retired in 1991 after having worked in management positions at Iowa Beef Processors and for Marx Leasing in Sioux City. He served as a chairman for Extra Metropolitan Council of Governments, Northeast Economic Development District, Pender Airport Authority, as a member and chairman of the Pender Village Board of Trustees, Thurston County and Greater Siouxland Fair Boards. He was also the manager for the Greater Siouxland Fair. Don was also a member of the Masonic Organization since 1961 and at present belonged to Olive Branch Lodge 274 of Walthill, NE, having served as a past Master of the Lodge. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. In 1964, he was a Post Commander of Thurston American Legion No. 372 and became Vice Commander for District 3 of Nebraska. After moving to Pender, he joined Pender American Legion Post 55. He is also a member of the United Church of Pender. He is survived by his wife, Mavis; children, Kathryn (Kenneth) Siebrandt of Pender, NE and Keith (Janeen) Berg of Syracuse, NE; eight grandchildren, Jenna Kennedy, Cody (Shana) Siebrandt, Tony (Jody) Berg, Kelcey (Alan) Jeppson, Isaac (Shari) Berg, Caleb (Emilea) Berg, Miles (Katie) Berg, Landon (Bethany) Berg;  15 great grandchildren; sister, Donna (Neil) Wood; sisters-in-law, Barbara McGuire, Lois Sinderhoff, , Katherine Berg, brother-in-law; LaVerne Bill McGuire; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph Royal Berg, Carrol Berg, and Charles Berg.
