Donald D. Mahaney

Donald David Mahaney, 92, of Walthill, NE passed away peacefully at his home in Walthill on Friday, March 18, 2022.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walthill.  The visitation will be on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.

Don was born on October 15, 1929, in Walthill to Thomas and Veronica (Gatzemeyer) Mahaney.  He attended country school and went to school in Winnebago.  On July 4, 1953, Don married Patricia Rose McGowen at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, NE.  Don served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a lifelong farmer in Thurston County Nebraska. 

Don is survived by his son, Michael (Gina) Mahaney of Walthill, NE; daughter, Madonna (Rick) Nelsen of Homer, NE; brother-in-law, Bill McGowen; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and special family friends, Evelyn McManigal and Cory Wiebelhaus. 

Don is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia “Patsy” Mahaney; 4 brothers; 1 sister; and 2 sisters-in-law.
