Dorothy A. Urbanec

Dorothy Arlene Urbanec, 96, of Pender, NE, died on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE.  Funeral services will be Friday, February 25, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE.  The visitation will be Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Emerson.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  

Dorothy Arlene (Schwarten) Urbanec was born west of Emerson, NE on the Schwarten farm where her father was born.  Her parents were Sadie Utemark and Ed Schwarten.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, where she was a Sunday school teacher.  She attended Lone Star School, graduated from Emerson High School in 1942.  In 1979, Dorothy decided to attend college and get a degree.  She graduated from Wayne State College in 1983, with a degree in Psychology and counseling.

On August 21, 1947, she married Raymond Urbanec at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  She was always active in the church, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, active in Luther League and serving offices in the Women’s group.

She loved her family and all children.  Dorothy was a 4-H leader for sixteen years.

She is survived by her children, Paul Urbanec of Nelson, NE, Carolyn (Bruce) Bayless of League City, TX, Richard (Carla) Urbanec of Pender, NE, Charles (Mary Jo) Urbanec of Emerson, NE, and Susan Urbanec of Pender, NE; thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn (Lawrence) Luehr of Emerson, NE, Sharon Franson of Lee Summit, MO; brothers, Edwin (Ellen) Schwarten of Emerson, NE, and Roger (Mary Anne) Schwarten of Emerson, NE.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; infant daughter; brother, Delmar Schwarten; and sister Bernice Schwarten.
