Earl Gene Rhods, 90, of Wayne, NE passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at his home in Wayne. Funeral services for will be Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE: Pastor Patti Meyer will be officiating. The visitation will be Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Earl was born November 2, 1927 in Dixon County to Frank and Nettie (Wright) Rhods. He grew up on a farm near Emerson, NE. In 1950 he was drafted into the United States Army and served as Staff Sergeant in Korea during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1952 he returned to Nebraska. On December 2, 1955, he married Reta Barg in Wakefield and the couple had four children, Michael, Linda, Carey, and Terry. The couple farmed together near Emerson until 1968. They then moved to Wayne where Earl worked for Marra Home Improvement and later as a farm hand for Ivan Freese. He worked for the Wayne County in 1983 as a heavy equipment operator. Earl retired from the county in 2009 at the age of 82. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in the garden, and spending time with his family. He was a jack of all trades and the go to guy when anything needed to be repaired. Earl is survived by his wife, Reta Rhods of Wayne, NE; sons, Michael Rhods of Wakefield, NE, Carey (Laurie) Rhods of Wakefield, NE, Terry Rhods of Wayne, NE; daughter, Linda (Frank) Daley of Seward, NE; twelve grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Lucy Harrison; brother, Harvey (Irene) Rhods; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Al (Bertha) Rhods; brother-in-law, Tom Harrison; granddaughter, X’ia Rhods; and great-granddaughter, Mariah Scott.
