Edwin Joseph Vraspir, age 40, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24th, 2019 at his home in Homer, Alaska.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson. A wake service will follow at 7:00 p.m.; with Father Jerry Leise officiating. Local arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson.
Ed was born on August 9, 1979 in Pender, Nebraska, son of Gene and Judi (Hassler) Vraspir. Ed graduated from Emerson-Hubbard High School in 1998. He went on to study Electronic Engineering Technology at Southeast Community College in Milford, NE. After graduating he felt "the West" calling him and moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. He embarked on a career at Advanced Energy and traveled extensively. He lived in Colorado for 15 years, during which time he made many lifelong friendships. He embraced the mountain life and found his ultimate passion mountain biking. Ed rescued a dog named Gunner who was a faithful companion and rode by his side until the end.
Ed married Lindsay Martin on May 29, 2015 at Lake McConaughy, NE. Adventures at heart they moved to "the last frontier" (Alaska) in 2016 and settled into a beautiful home overlooking Kachemak Bay. In his usual fashion he was quick to make friends who shared a passion for biking. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, hiking and rafting to the face of the glaciers. Ed loved his wife, family, friends and good old classic country music.
Ed is survived by his wife, Lindsay Martin of Homer, AK; best friend, Gunner (dog); grandpa, Glen Doupnik of Pender, NE; grandpa-in-law, Jim Martin of Ft. Collins, CO; dad, Gene Vraspir of Emerson, NE; brother, Jonathan (Cathryn) Vraspir of Nassau, Bahamas; sisters, Gina (Garner) Sukup of Seward, NE, Sara (Travis) Koopman of Loveland, CO and Becky (Dan) Langley of Douglas, WY; 5 Vraspir nephews, Gavin and Reggie Sukup, Roan and Quade Langley and Briggston Koopman; Eddie's in-laws; Randy and Kim Martin of Windsor, CO; brother-in-law, Jon (Jenn) Martin; nephews, Breyton and Dekker; niece, Mara Martin.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Judi Vraspir; grandparents, Edwin E. Vraspir and Leona (Vraspir) Doupnik, Dennis and Marjorie Hassler and Nancy Martin; aunts, Teresa Hassler and Seinna Hassle; uncle, John Rohde.
