Ervin "Brub" Earl Dixon, 82, of Nebraska City, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Crowne Point Senior Living in Omaha, NE. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE. The memorial service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE. Inurnment with Military Honors will be held in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Dixon Scholarship fund. Brub Dixon was born on July 26, 1942, in West Point, NE, in Cuming County, to Earl (Bud) and Ione (Nolting) Dixon. He lived a life deeply rooted in his farm boy upbringing. He attended Maple Grove, District 65, and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1960. Brub was baptized on August 23, 1942, and confirmed on April 15, 1956 at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft NE. Brub & Cheryl Gatzemeyer were married 1966-1987 and were parents to Lance Earl & Leslie Lynn. The family moved to Nebraska City, NE in 1978 and Brub lived there until recently.
Brub served with distinction as an Army veteran in an artillery outfit stationed in Germany. An accomplished individual, he earned a degree in welding technology from Southeast Community College in Milford and became part owner of Nebraska Power Service. There, he contributed his skills as a welder, installing engines in power plants for many years.
Though he faced a life-changing heart attack at the age of 50 that ended his construction career, his journey took a remarkable turn in May 2007 when he became the 26th heart transplant recipient at UNMC. Brub was eternally grateful to the donor family and the medical professionals who played a pivotal role in his recovery.
Following his retirement, Brub developed an extensive collection of gun cartridges and enjoyed a successful pursuit in precision rifle shooting, winning several Nebraska State Game championships. He also enjoyed pheasant hunting with family and friends. Brub remained dedicated to his agricultural roots and owns farmland in several counties. He loved nature and trees and for many years he planted & nursed seedlings at the cabin in honor of others. He was also known for his love of storytelling and sharing a good joke.
Brub is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Jennifer Dixon of Papillion, NE; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Steve West of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Jalyn (Tyler) Hansen, Cameron Dixon, and Nathan (Lacey) West; and four great-grandchildren, Jack, Oliva & William Hansen & Coralee West. He is also survived by his sisters and their spouses, Jack Gardes, Sherri and Ron Bruns, Donna and Vernon Siebrandt, and Debra and Dennis Kochevar, along with nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl (Bud) and Ione Dixon, his sister Earleen Gardes and special friend Linda Brott.
